According to the Gospel of Judas Iscariot (3rd century), Jesus was not sacrificed to the supreme God—he was sacrificed to demons.

Shouldn’t that make believers a little nervous? You know, that Devil is a tricky son of a gun. What would it mean if Judas’ Gospel is true and he has the last laugh?
My opinion is the text of the bible is written in metaphor and not meant to be taken literally. The meaning is in the story or ideas. If more people were to realize this then they may understand the message and battles our with in each person. And not an instrument for organized power to manipulate or force values on others. It would be nonsense to think something written years after an event could be taken as literal. What would it mean if Judas’ Gospel is true and he has the last laugh?
Gnostic text would be the same as if somebody 2000 years from now dug up a Jehova Witness book of a Mormon Bible. Just because it was written does not make it true.
So no worries.
He came back to life about 100 years after he died so he could write it?
An ';Op-Ed'; piece is not a very strong source...
Authorship: Yes, if you buy the ultra-liberal line that NOTHING miraculous ever happens and the Gospels are complete fabrications maybe so, but when you factor in the fact that most of the eyewitnesses of Jesus' ministry who were active participants in the early church DIED rather than recant their testimony, that becomes more and more unlikely.
Mark... 70 A.D. is probably a little late, but the testimony of men who were taught by the apostles tells us that Matthew ';took notes'; in Aramaic DURING JESUS' MINISTRY, so this missing document was, in fact, the FIRST Gospel and served as the basis of the synoptics. Those same second century writers identify the authors of the 4 Gospels and quote from them, so the even though it is not conclusive, the evidence is much stronger than you indicate.
The Fourth Gospel DOES NOT disagree with the synoptics. Such a view would insist that: a) Similar events in the Gospels are, in fact, varying misrepresentations of actual events at a single instance. b) Those events happened only once. c) Alternate statements cannot have all been said as part of longer dialog... and so on. It is applying invalid constraints to the Gospel.
James is quite possibly the oldest surviving text. It is often dated around 45, about 15 years after Jesus' death. Significant evidence indicates that the church was still a mostly (if not completely) Jewish organization (for example, he calls the assembly of Christians ';synagogue';). He obviously met his older brother, (as did Jude). Galatians is also dated around 45-50 and most of Paul's writing took place in the 50's.
Luke explains clearly that his Gospel was a research effort, based on written and oral statements of eyewitnesses, so he doesn't claim to be an eyewitness himself.
Though it is not his focus, Paul DOES discuss events during Jesus' ministry. (1Co 11:23 For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, 24 and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.”...)
The canon of the New Testament was in fact established long before the conferences which were called to weed out the numerous forgeries written during the second and third centuries. The Muratorian Canon, transcribed around 160-170 A.D., establishes that about 90% of the canon was already clearly delineated at that time. It includes ONLY FOUR GOSPELS, indicating that they were known and in circulation at that time AND that the others either did not yet exist or were NOT known to be authentic at that time.
This document originated at a time when the lives and teachings of the apostles were still part of living memory, making the task of authenticating the documents and identifying the forgeries MUCH easier than it is for us almost 2000 years later.
The Gospel of Judas was originally written in the second century, it is a Gnostic text. The copy found in the 1970's is of 4th century origins. Authentic Christian writings of older origin do not support the tales of this later writing. Thus, it cannot be relied on as being fact and will never have any bearing in Christianity.
Christians should not be concerned. The Bible is the true word of God and if you look at the end of the Bible in Revelations 22:18 God tells us that His book is complete.
Rev22:18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book.
I feel sorry for those that are trying to add to the Bible. They say that they are not trying to add to the Bible by creating other books but if they are creating a book that is supposedly God breathed, as the Bible is, and this book is giving them guidance from God as the Bible does then they might as well be adding to the Bible. The Bible is the only word of God that anyone should be turning to to find the answers to how to live their lives. I am not saying anything against the study books out there, just the other books that were supposedly written by man, transcribing for God.
Then there will have to be a lot of explaining to do, concerning these passages from the Old Testament:
Gen 49:10 The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come....
(Judah will indeed LOSE the rulership)
Gen 49:25 Even by the God of thy father, who shall help thee; and by the Almighty, who shall bless thee with blessings of heaven above, blessings of the deep that lieth under, blessings of the breasts, and of the womb:
Gen 49:26 The blessings of thy father have prevailed above the blessings of my progenitors unto the utmost bound of the everlasting hills: they shall be on the head of Joseph, and on the crown of the head of him that was separate from his brethren.
(Joseph will regain it)
